— The Roaring 20s

Calma.

In the previous post, I briefly mentioned how Privato Tower‘s interiors are being designed by Juan Carlo Calma. I remember how my friend, Jacky messaged me about this “London-trained Architect.” Only to turn out that he’s the cousin of my best friend!

To cut the story short, Carlo is now collaborating with Privato Tower’s lead architect, Casas+Associates. Right before we hit the ground running, I visited Carlo’s recent project- Manila Diamond Hotel’s Constellation Floor.

Check out his genius!

This is “PISCES”, it is a culinary Show Kitchen where you can hold intimate events and even bring in your own chef. Since I’m a sucker for natural stones, I especially like the Onyx marble detail on the counter.

This is the living room at “LEO.” It is an executive boardroom that is marked by luxury and state-of-the-art equipment. The leatherette-padded wall gives the otherwise “serious” room a degree of coziness.

Now just look at that hard-wood, 12-seater conference table! It is a CEO’s dream! Not to mention the sweeping view of Manila Bay that the floor-to-ceiling windows give. I heard this is a favorite meeting place of diplomats and businessmen alike!

This is the Chairman’s bathroom. Both the ceiling and wall details were done through Calma’s laser-cut method of either perforating steel or sculpting wood or carving marble.

The common bathroom is equally opulent. Just check out the amount of Onyx wrapped around this counter! Onyx is one of the premium natural stones for its unique grain pattern and translucent quality. When I built our first building, onyx was my requirement for our small bar. But it’s nowhere as intricate as this!

Even the ceiling has a groove of its own!

Coming from a family of known Filipino architects, Carlo Calma is really poised to raise the standards of design. Incidentally, I also wrote about Carlo in my Business Mirror column a few months back. You can check it out here http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/home/life/13588-london-calling.
